Fatal Boat Crash Delaware River - Delaware City

On October 5, 2008 in the early morning hours Stations 29, 15, and lower alloway station 18 were alerted for a possible vessel run aground in the area of the reedy island sand bar. Mru 29 with 29-m1 went responding under the command of Deputy Chief Speakman with 4. While enroute responding units where advised that it was possibly at the mouth of the C&D canal and the vessel was on the rocks.
15-m1 u/c of Deputy Chief Finnegan arrived to find a vessel out of the water on top the north jetty at the entrance to the canal. One individual was found moving around on the rocks. It was then determined that there was another individual still inside the vessel unconscious. Crew from 29-M1 and 15-M1 secured both individuals on the marine units with the help of the coast guard and proceeded to the state dock performing CPR on the way. The driver of the vessel was pronounced dead by medic 6B and ALS 23. The other individual was taken to the ER for treatment.
