3 Hunters Stuck in Pond - Port Penn

On Monday November 24th at 1742 hrs station 29 received a call of 3 hunters stuck in the pond on Rte 9 north of Port Penn. The station notified fireboard and responded with MRU 29 with marine 2 in tow under the command of P/C D. Bendler. Once on scene due to the weather conditions being rainy and cold P/C Bendler requested an ambulance for stand by and a second marine unit, at which time station 15 (Delaware City) was alerted. Rescue 29 responded under the command of 29-C-3 J. Newman and was put on the bridge to set up scene lights. At 1759 hrs, 29-C-1 T. Riale arrived and assumed Port Penn Command. 29 Marine 2 went into the pond with FF/EMT A. Stuckert and Career Staff M. Deery. Trooper 4 was clearing an incident in the Talleyville local and was sent to assist in searching for the subjects. 29-0 and Argo 29 responded under the command of 29-C-2 B. Dunkelberger and picked up Capt. Newman and responded to the area of Rte 9 and Thorntown Rd to try and find a second way into the area. Command requested for zone 4 fire police to shut down Rte 9 between Thorntown and Market. As Trooper 4 arrived Command advised them they were looking for a 10-14 foot boat with three subjects onboard. Command also advised Trooper 4 he had the subjects on the phone and was going to help guide them in. After Trooper 4 located the subjects 29 Marine 2 advised command that they had made to the subjects but their vessel was stuck as well. 15 Marine 2 returned to the dock and advised that the water was too far out and they wouldn’t make it in. Command and Deputy 15 (B. Finnegan) came up with the option to check at the end of Lang’s lane for better access. At that time command request the remaining two trucks from the station for scene lights on the north end of the pond and to have a cover up place in the station. Command also requested the NCC Surface Water Team for manpower and more boats. Engine 29-4 responded under the command of FF G. Taylor and Tanker 29 responded under the command of P/C W. Riale and responded to the north end of the pond. Steve Bennett a Fire Inspector and member of Station 15 arrived with his flat bottom boat and were sent to Deputy 15 along with MRU 23 and 23 marine 2. 15 marine 2’s crew responded to the end of Lang’s Lane with the NSA raft off of MRU 29. Fireboard advised command that F-100 was available also the Nation Guard had offered a helicopter to assist. F-100 was told to make the response. Around 1857 hrs Deputy 15 advised that the raft with Brad Speakman and Bob Grimm were in the water and Bennett’s boat with Ryan Stuckert and Steve Bennett were launching. At 1919 hrs command was advised that all the subjects and all the vessels were en-route back to the shore. Command requested 2 additional ambulances for evaluations and recalled F-100. At 1935 hrs, Command advised that the situation was under control with all subjects refusing treatment.
