Monday, September 26, 2016

When we posted the tragic news from the Wilmington Delaware Line of Duty Death we advised the public that our own member was involved and that he was in critical but stable condition at the Crozer burn center. This morning we would like to take a minute and share with you another look at Brad Speakman. To often in todays world you don't hear about the hero's who live next door to you.

Brad Speakman began his career with the Port Penn Fire Company in 1996 along with his twin brother Brandon. The Speakman's as they would later be nicknamed were a perfect fit for the community and for the Fire Service. Brad and Brandon rose well through the ranks of the Company and showed a dedication and conviction to the job that many only hear about. Brad Speakman has served as Captain, Assistant Chief, Deputy Chief and Chief of the Port Penn Fire Company. In addition to serving this company Brad has be a team leader and team coordinator for the New Castle County Surface Water Rescue Team. Brad has been awarded numerous citations for his conduct and actions on various calls with the Port Penn Fire Company. Brad was awarded a Firefighter of the year award for leading a fire prevention effort that resulted in saving a life within 24 hours. In addition Brad has been awarded Port Penn Fire Companies only medal of valor, for his heroic rescue efforts in an early morning blaze in the community of Delaware City.

Past Chief Speakman is truly a hero in every sense of the word and yet you won't ever hear those words from him. As I write this story I am asking that you all keep Brad, his wife Lauren and their children in your thoughts. The Speakman family is an amazing family and we are proud to support them on the road to recovery.  Brad you got this stay strong brother.
