Rail Equipment Explosion

On Saturday, November 1st at approximtely 12:40 hours, Rescue/Engine 29 was dispatched to the 3300 block of Wrangle Hill Road to assist the Christiana Fire Company with a Railroad Right of Way Equipment Fire with Explosion.

Rescue/Engine 29-6 responded with a crew of four and upon their arrival were directed to investigate the source of the explosion that occured on the Delmarva Central RR right of way just north of Wrangle Hill Rd. 29-6 laid a supply line from the RR Crossing into the scene and began supression operations. A Rail Heating Machine had malfunctioned, caught fire and caused a 500 gallon LPG tank it was carrying to explode damaging a nearby house, church and several businesses. The explosion caused debris to be scattered throughout the area setting a number of grass and woodland fires. Rescue/Engine 29-6 operated at the scene for approximately 3 hours until released by Christiana Command.
