Argo Assist in Rescue on the C & D Canal Banks

On Sunday, November 2nd, Station 29 was alerted to assist Stations 1 & 27 along the C & D Canal Banks south of Chesapeake City Rd near Steele Rd. Volunteer Hose of Middletown was alerted at 13:05 hours for a male that fell from his bike and fractured his leg. Upon arrival of the EMS units, the patient was located approximately 600 yards off the roadway and down an embankment. Additional rescue resources were requested from the Chesapeake City, Delaware City and Port Penn Fire Companies. A Special Request was made for ARGO 29 a semi-amphibious off road tracked vehicle with patient transport capabilities. Field Piece 29-1 with ARGO 29 in tow responded and assisted in the extrication of the injured bicyclist. Patient care was provided by N.C.C. Paramedics as the patient was then transfered to the Delaware State Police Helicopter (Trooper 4) for transport to the Christiana Trauma Center. Port Penn units operated for approximately 2 hours until released by the Middletown Command.
